I enjoy making music and thinking about music. This blog is where I share some of my thoughts on these matters.
I am a freelance tenor trombone player living and working in New York City. You can hear me in orchestras, jazz bands, pop bands and more. MORE! I have been playing for thirty years. Thirty years!
My claim to fame is having toured all around the U.S. and other parts of the known world with The Monkees. That’s right, Davy, Micky and Peter! I never had the pleasure to meet Mike Nesmith, but I am hoping for an invitation to his Texas ranch any day. It was a great ride while it lasted! I learned so much about entertaining from those super stars.
I have been principal trombone with the Astoria Symphony Orchestra for sixteen seasons. With the Astoria Symphony, I premiered Panayoti Karousos’s Trombone Concerto The Spirit of Liberty in 2006.
My improvisation itch is scratched by playing for the Spencer Katzman Threeo, guitar jazz that doesn’t suck. I am also the other half of Spencer’s country swing experiment Speedy East. Imagine Speedy West with a trombone instead of a steel guitar. What? Google it!
Oh, I also have a ceremonial brass quintet, The Coronation Brass. Rates upon request.
Did I mention, I also contract musicians -from quintets to full orchestras! Rates upon request.
And… I’m a Leo.
Proud father of three boys. Husband of one amazing actress.
